Seasonal Allergies and Your Immune System
Pollen is one of the major triggers of seasonal allergies. Molds are another cause of this allergic reaction in people. But why do some people get this tormenting reaction and others don't? If you are usually troubled by seasonal allergies, do you have to always get it if you are not medicated each season?
Allergic rhinitis
Seasonal allergy or allergic rhinitis, as it is called in the medical jargon, costs sufferers hundreds of dollars and lots of irritation every year. In fact, for some people, the waning of winter is a cause for anxiety.
Allergic rhinitis occurs when the inhaled pollen or similar irritant causes inflammation of the mucous membranes of the upper airways. But why do some people have it and some don't? Still, why are some people able to make a small change in their diet and are never bothered by this reaction again?
The Case of a Houston Ex-Allergic
At first I thought some people may just be predisposed to sinus infection. But what does that mean? Well, it became even more baffling when Lori, a co-worker for three years, suddenly got rid of her allergic reaction to pollen without leaving her neighborhood!
It still amazes me today - 3 more years since her last pollen-induced sinusitis. She inhales the same pollen and does not get sick, WITHOUT ANY MEDICATION whatsoever! Think about this... Medical experts say the immune system "remembers" its first encounter with the pollen-induced reaction. What this means is that, the next time it comes across pollen this triggers the same allergic reaction.
If this is so, then the allergy sufferer will more easily succumb to the discomfort the next time around, repeatedly. That's how it seemed with Lori for the three years we worked in the same office. But something happened the 4th year... something stunning.
No More Allergies, No More Medication
Today, Lori is free from seasonal allergies. I wrote this article because a new co-worker is suffering terribly from seasonal allergies. Imagine waking up with your eyes swollen shut, even while you are on prescription medication! I have told this other co-worker about Lori. He asked me what she did, and I told him.
I told him exactly what Lori told me. She said a friend introduced her to a food supplement made from a natural seaweed; an extract made from the brown seaweed family. Lori was not taking this food supplement for her allergies. She had heard that it promoted vitality and higher energy. Being an elementary school teacher, she needed the energy boost to keep up with her 3rd graders.
What Lori discovered was surprising. Her energy level soared, and she got an unexpected but very pleasant bonus - no more adverse reaction to pollen. That has been three years ago. Her seasonal allergies are gone! Since then I have heard of numerous others who are now "allergy-free" and are free to enjoy the advent of Spring each year.
